George Barcroft will borrow of any that dare lende
But to paye againe he doth never intend
Wherefore the lender is verie vnwise
And the borrower is knaw by good advise
Then the borrowers a knave & þe lender a fool
And for to learn well hee need go to school
Note: First two couplets added by a sixteenth-century hand; second couplet crossed out and later hand added third further down the page.
